The architectural concept for Wyndham Health Service is generated from the functional brief, the nature of the site, its orientation and relationship to the surrounding environs. The main entry is highlighted by a canopy at the centre of the front elevation, visible from the street, which assists in directing visitors.
As a number of health provider agencies are to be accommodated (Primary Care, Dental Health, Child and Adolescent, Youth, and Adult Mental Health, and Royal District Nursing Service), an effort has been made to break down the scale of the building to generate wings or fingers coming off a central core.
The informal atmosphere is reinforced by the internal street, which accesses the various agencies. The space expands and contracts both vertically and horizontally and affords views into courtyards and waiting areas. Most service providers have their own waiting area designed to eliminate any institutional feel of a larger common waiting space.
