Woodhead completed the interior design for the Woolworths Support Office, as an integrated fitout along side the base building architecture, also designed by Woodhead.
The three workplace centres focus around the central marketplace, the ‘heart’ of the campus. All shared facilities, amenities, meeting places and ‘public spaces’ connect with the central marketplace and consider all the senses. The sensory connection between all cultural spaces and business divisions provides a focus on open planning and equality of amenity. Each workplace is designed to continue the sensory experience of the materials and finishes established in the central marketplace.
All primary circulation, tea points, breakout spaces and shared facilities are arranged around the central marketplace and connected atrium-streets. Even business divisions and floor plates within each ‘building’ experience connection via bridges and cascading stairs, creating a three-dimensional working environment creating highly efficient and enjoyable pedestrian travel.
Interior design concept incorporates themes from the ‘natural-historical’ context of the site, including the landscape, colours and textures brought into the interior finishes. Workplace planning established view corridors from each floor, providing visual connection to the landscape surrounding the campus – this is particularly evident along all primary circulation paths within the campus.
The interior layout strongly supports the client’s requirement for interaction. The interiors team developed principles of extensive connectivity between levels and across atriums and open spaces, supported by a campus-wide circulation network and strategically located cultural facilities. The result is a workplace environment that maximises the ‘chance meeting’ – improving business efficiency and cultural value.
The design team targeted materials with low VOC, efficient lighting and banned any rainforest timbers. Selection of local products and materials that supported local employment and economies was given priority. Woolworths place a particular emphasis on supporting Australian industry.
