Located on a greenfield site, St Vincent de Paul, Geelong is a single storey 91 bed aged-care facility comprising four buildings.
The Woodhead designed aged-care facility encompasses four separate buildings, three of which accommodate residents the fourth housing administrative functions. The buildings are designed to a domestic scale, diminishing the institutional look and feel.
The accommodation buildings are positioned around the administration building in a way that is sympathetic to the site conditions, while providing an effective planning solution. Housing around 30 residents in each building produces an efficient economy of scale, thus reducing the amount of servicing required.
This layout brings the administration building into the centre of the site and internalises all servicing while providing more of a residential frontage to the streetscape. A gradual procession from public areas through to private spaces has also been incorporated into the overall scheme.
Access to natural lighting, cross ventilation and water conservation are some of the strategies that have been utilised, delivering higher levels of user comfort, better indoor air quality whilst minimising the impact on the environment. Water saving measures are implemented, which consider water use and reuse.
