Woodhead has designed the new South Australian Police Headquarters at 100 Angas Street, Adelaide. The building is an energy efficient 5 Star Green Star rated office building housing the administration and management of the South Australian Police force.
The 10 storey facility provides 18,000m² of office accommodation and basement car parking for SAPOL Executive, Major Fraud Investigation Branch, Police Prosecution and Administration. In addition, the ground floor lobby accommodates a new customer service area providing the force with an accessible public face.
Woodhead has designed both the commercial building and customised interior fitout. Each floor incorporates a common ‘breakout’ cafe space at the heart of the integrated fitout, and brings the building into line with current workplace expectations. These common spaces are light and spacious with comfortable seating, full kitchen facilities and expansive views of the eastern suburbs and Adelaide Hills.
Woodhead tailored a design solution which ensured the integration of SAPOL’s functional and performance requirements were met. The resulting workplace performance increases are over and above the standard Property Council of Australia A-Grade level. A key parameter during the design outcome was to emphasise leadership and support as core functional activities and to maximise flexibility and efficiency whilst satisfying specific security and cultural requirements to meet SAPOL’s stringent standards.
The Woodhead successfully delivered the separate fitout and base build works contracts, working with two different contractors in their construction management processes and in their need to integrate on-site efforts.
The project is valued at approximately $50M and reached completion and occupation by SA Police in September 2011.
