Woodhead was appointed by Amalgamated Holdings Limited in 2011 as Interior Designers for the rollout of new guestrooms at the Rydges Lakeside Hotel in Canberra. Opened in 1972 as a 5 star hotel, the Rydges Lakeside rooms had not been updated for approximately 25 years, and have forced the hotel to drop its star rating to 3.5 stars. Following a recent lobby and restaurant upgrade, Woodhead were brought in to re-design the dated rooms, guest corridors and lift interiors, and therefore improve on guest experience, room revenue and overall rating.

Concept design and planning of the 23sqm rooms (including bathroom) was driven by the brief to make the rooms feel more modern, make them look bigger and link them to the lobby refurbishment. A decision was made to remove the bath and replace with a shower, while in the guestrooms furniture and joinery were designed to have minimal contact with the floor, maximising the amount of visible floor. Additionally, mirrors were used extensively in both bedroom and bathroom to reflect light and add to the appearance of space.

The project was completed in mid 2012.
