Woodhead’s design for the interiors of Perth Airport’s new corporate headquarters is based on a colour strategy associated with Perth Airport; the blue sky, yellow sun and the dark grey tarmac. This colour palette is utilised in the materials and finishes of the public spaces and playfully applied as bold colours in the staff break-out area graphics and way-finding.

Airport symbols and language inspires the graphics and way-finding. Symbols identify areas such as the staff hub, meeting spaces and utility rooms. Use of illuminated large format numbers for meeting rooms echo arrival and departure gate numbers. The end panels of the compactus units have aviation style super graphics introduce colour and visual interest.

The design solution maximises access to natural light and applies an egalitarian planning grid ensuring environmentally conscious design wherever possible.

Maximum flexibility is achieved with a modular planning solution based on a common workspace standard and a symmetrical layout. The planning solution deliberately places workspaces away from the perimeter so that windows are not ‘owned’ by an individual. Multi-function breakout spaces and informal meeting areas are incorporated to foster knowledge distribution.

A series of large sliding panels to the meeting room adjacent the reception area provide a flexible open space suitable for large group presentations or client functions, allowing for groups of up to 100 people to congregate.

The high degree of workplace flexibility allows Perth Airport to reconfigure the spaces with a minimum of effort and cost enabling them to quickly react to changes in their business.
