Liuzhou is a large secondary city in Central-Southwest China’s Guangxi province, 255km from the provincial capital Nanning.  The 4 star, 315-room Liuzhou Radisson Hotel is expected to attract a mix of customers from the corporate, government and conference sectors, as well as tourists and long-staying guests.

The geometric forms of the existing urban layout of the city and its natural setting played a key role in influencing the interior design aesthetic of the hotel.  Products produced in the area influence the detailing and materiality found throughout the hotel such as the qualities of the local wormsilk and intricate silver work.  Textiles, weaving, spinning and paper making are also used as reference and reflected in the choice of furnishings and artworks.

A natural materials palette coupled with new types of materials and culturally interpreted detailing compliments the simple and clean lines found throughout the guest rooms. Locally sourced natural materials such as timber and stone are used throughout all rooms with attention paid to indirect lighting, creating an ambience of simplicity and allowing the design detail to breathe.

Sculptural artwork references the local cultures and diverse minority groups of Guangxi whilst the modern furniture references the Liuzhou context through colour.  Freestanding sculptural elements, creative introduction of silver and cultural references are also evident in the detailing of the public areas.
