Superbly located in the beachside resort foreshore at Glenelg and adjoining Colley Reserve and Holdfast Shores, this prominent seaside development consists of 258 residential apartments in twelve above-ground stories, over a four-storey basement.
The development enjoys its own striking architectural style, distinct from surrounding buildings. Eighty five percent of its façade is glazed, and stark white external exposed precast blade walls and columns give the building a Mediterranean feel.
Apartments range from compact one bed units to two storey town houses and large penthouses with roof terraces. Facilities include an indoor heated lap pool, spa and gymnasium. Liberty Towers is just minutes away from shopping, alfresco cafes, restaurants and a short stroll from the famous Jetty Road Precinct.
The design incorporates a podium base form, and three extensively modelled towers. The penthouse level is capped with louvred sunscreen roof forms. Curved Balcony elements address the principle corner of Anzac Highway and Colley Terrace.
An innovative design feature was to raise the ground floor 1.5m above footpath level to screen the residents above the level of parked cars to the reserve.
The technical challenge of building the underground car park below the water table was solved by constructing a diaphragm perimeter retaining wall down to a clay layer, then using a top down construction sequence for the car park floors.
