Terminal Redevelopment

Woodhead has designed the redevelopment of Gold Coast Airport Terminal 1 into a common use international and domestic passenger terminal, including full check in, lounge and baggage facilities.

The terminal is designed as an open air-conditioned facility adopting common areas wherever possible for processing international and domestic passengers and baggage. Development of retail opportunities has maximised revenue potential and provided a good level of service to passengers and visitors.

The design provides maximum flexibility to respond to changes in airline schedules and increased demand for either international and/or domestic operations.

Future expansion in accordance with the plan for ultimate capacity with minimum redundancy, changes and operational disruption are also a key feature of the design.

Masterplan

Woodhead has developed a masterplan concept for the overall airport site, including adjacent land to the south, to create an integrated aviation and commercial precinct that also accommodates future terminal expansion.

The defining design philosophy for the masterplan is an unashamed focus on leisure. Key design considerations include; future terminal access and growth, rapid growth in public carparking, development of a multi-modal transport hub, assessment of residential, commercial, retail and tourism potential, and creation of an accessible public piazza.

The masterplan allows for a mixed-use development of approximately 80,000m2, which includes a range of residential, commercial, retail and tourism facilities.

The creation of a public piazza / terminal forecourt integrates the mixed use development with the terminal, reinforcing the sense of place and arrival, and connecting the internal and external environments.

The concept masterplan sets a clear image and direction for Gold Coast Airport, both now and into the future.
