The University of Adelaide commissioned Woodhead, teamed with DCM, to refurbish and reposition the existing 1970’s office tower at 10 Pulteney Street to house the School of Professions following increased pressure and significant growth within the University campus space.

The Woodhead/DCM team developed a design concept which successfully transforms and updates the building for its new function. The design includes a new two-level, glazed atrium lining the existing twelve-storey tower and the two-storey education building, and provides light-filled, flexible student common areas and learning zones.

The new natural light filled glazed link provides an enlarged foyer to the buildings and becomes the heart of the Faculty of Professions, creating a sense of comfort and belonging for staff and students. The foyer is a pivot point for all circulation and a place for social contact and interaction. The reception areas are front of house spaces for undergraduate and post-graduate students presenting a professional, yet friendly interface where students can feel comfortable, welcome and respected.

The north facade is refreshed with a glass veil to allow greater light penetration into the spaces and demonstrates a number of ESD initiatives from solar collection, rain water harvesting and natural ventilation.
