Woodhead, together with DCM, has designed the refurbishment of 10 Pulteney Street, Adelaide to accommodate the new Faculty of Professions Undergraduate and Post Graduate Student Centre and learning facility.

Although primarily an education facility Woodhead’s design team applied commercial workplace principles to the workspaces to enable staff and students to interact in a more creative and collaborative work environment.

The student centre, theatres and lounges provide a dynamic student focused meeting and Learning Environment adjacent to the main tower fitout completed in 2009.

The students have called this space “The Hub” due to its emphasis on shared collaborative learning. A student-centred approach, the space encourages human interaction and spaces that stimulate dynamic and social learning – the ability to ‘think critically’ rather than factual knowledge.

These informal learning spaces are fun, comfortable and cafe style, grouped into interactive, creative, and reflective zones.

The central informal learning lounges encompass both indoor and outdoor areas. These places accommodate a variety of learning spaces which include reflective individual areas (laptop benches around the perimeters/out the way), social interactive spaces with wireless/work provisions (soft and flexible lounge seating for small and large groups), and creative group learning and problem solving (group work areas with booths, tables with AV and technological support).

The design also maximises access to daylight and views, walls are operable and flexible, with minimal corridors to ensure areas flow one into another

A retail cafe outlet is included in the main ground foyer with wireless connections and learning environments to be included in the outdoor seating.
