The Ayr Hospital is part of the Bowen Health Service District, 78km south of Townsville in North Queensland. Woodhead completed the $8.8m Ayr Hospital Redevelopment project providing a new Regional Hospital on the existing hospital campus.
The new hospital is designed to deliver services such as that community health as well as in-patient services in line with Queensland Health policy.
Designed as a single storey light-weight building, the highly articulated form and coloured façade reflects the departmental planning, aiding wayfinding and ease of orientation.
The hospital provides 32 bed in-patient accommodation, palliative care, operating theatre, emergency department, radiology, pharmacy, dental health, physiotherapy, mental health, community health, administration and hotel services departments. The project also included public art works.
Woodhead provided architectural, primary consultant and interior design services.
