Woodhead has recently delivered the new and revitalised learning environments at Ascot Vale Primary School in inner Melbourne.

Ascot Vale Primary, now considered a ‘Smart Green School’, was re-opened on Friday 14 October 2011 by Senator Gavin Marshall and local Greens MP for Melbourne, Adam Bandt.

The Woodhead design team created a new Music and Art Pavilion and refurbished a multi-purpose building as part of the school’s upgrade.

The design team aligned with the University of Melbourne’s ’Smart Green Schools’ regenerative design concept programme to deliver the new key learning environments.

The Smart Green Schools initiative addresses the changing environmental imperatives, regarding building stock that requires refurbishment, and rapid adoption of the virtual world into education and learning practices.

The new learning zones also meet the changing approach to early learning and education shifting from classrooms to tailored information environments.

During the design process Woodhead worked closely with Ascot Vale Primary School Principal Joanne Roberts to identify the school’s aims and aspirations, and to produce an environment facilitating creative and functional design.

The combination of new quiet spaces, theatre, music and art spaces enhance the school’s learning environment, and incorporate several changing technology opportunities that promote creativity amongst students.

At the official opening Ascot Vale Primary staff and students celebrated with a formal ceremony including a display of several artistic and musical achievements.
