Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronomy, Commercial Building No.1
Beijing, PR China
The brief for this project called for a high-tech, intelligent office building of 35,000sqm reflecting the status of the University, its commercial partner and the building's location at the gateway to Beijing's 'Silicon Valley'.
Designed within tight economic constraints, the building creates an iconic image for the university's commercial partner, who will be the major tenant.
The slick curtain wall building incorporates ecologically sustainable principles and initiatives. These include winter gardens for ventilation and air filtration, enabling the flexible use of space during different seasons.
A narrow core-to-facade dimension maximises solar access and natural light within the building, with solar power electrical generation at the upper level.
Inter-floor atriums and circulation spines enable workers to move easily between the floors and are key elements of the mixed mode HVAC system.
