Southern Cross University, Gold Coast Campus

Queensland

Commissioned to design the foundation building for Southern Cross Universitys Gold Coast Campus, Woodhead have been instructed to incorporate best practise environmental management strategies. The new campus has been master-planned to sit within the Gold Coast Airport Development Park and the first stage will be ready to receive students early in 2009. The foundation building will be the first stage of the project and will feature approximately 5000 to 6000sqm of floor space and associated infrastructure.

The scope of work includes the development of a built form strategy for the entire four hectare site. The emphasis is on the distribution of building types to ensure maximum site capacity whilst also accommodating future growth.

Sustainable design practices include aligning the buildings orientation to take maximum advantage of the solar impact, shaded windows to limit heat penetration and distance between windows and offices minimised to take maximum advantage of natural light. The new Gold Coast campus will incorporate contemporary architecture and landscaping with consideration to the environment.

The new campus will span the Queensland and New South Wales border and will be accessible via the Gold Coast Highway and the Tweed Heads bypass once completed.
