Woodhead was one of six international firms selected to undertake a limited design competition for the design of Wuhan University of Technology. The 85 acre site for the proposed university is adjacent to the existing Wuhan Institute of Technology.
The new university will comprise ; seven colleges, a sports hall / stadium complex for up to 15,000 people, administration building, central library and residential accommodation for up to 13,000 students and staff.
The university facilities are designed to cater for a maximum population of approximately 30,000 students when at full operation.
Woodheads design concept for the university was based upon a central water theme reminiscent of a Venetian-style development. The university buildings will front onto a large lake and have views of the Yangtze River, which runs through the site.
