Foxtel Customer Service Centre

Moonee Ponds, Victoria

This 650 person call centre in Melbourne is conceived of as a commercial building with innovative architectural features. The building offers a modern and efficient workplace, including internal flexibility for future tenancies and environmentally sensitive services.

The building is orientated with its long axis to the east-west with a central atrium allowing for maximum natural light. The east and west facades remain largely blank to minimise the amount of solar gain. Services are located at the ends of the central atrium and are individually expressed to add interest to the facades.

The planning of the building is a very simple diagram that separates the main floor plate from the circulation and services. The main floor plate is expressed as a clear space with clean lines at the facades and the atrium edge. Circulation takes place at the edges with vertical circulation situated within the frames that enclose the central atrium.

A basement carpark provides a formal base to the composition, which rises to three office levels. The ground floor plate incorporates amenities such as training rooms and a cafeteria.

The architectural concept alludes to the idea of televisual communication with a series of 'tubes' seemingly floating above the ground. The facades are layered within an overall - frame the sides of the main tube. Windows are scattered along the facades and their frames painted in bright colours to add visual interest.
