This masterplan was designed as a competition entry to create a new regional city centre within the rapidly developing city of Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi Province.

The primary focus of the plan is upon the provision of a major new residential precinct for the city. At the centre of the precinct is a new regional centre that provides business, cultural, commercial and retail facilities.

Another central initiative within the masterplan is the positioning of Cheng Nan as the entertainment centre for Nanchang.

This project further refines Woodhead's ongoing philosophical development of multifunctional city centres as part of a layered strategy to create models of urbanisation for China that are more appropriate for modern-day China than some of the outdated western models.
