Holdfast Shores

Glenelg, South Australia

Overlooking Holdfast Bay, this extensive beachfront development comprises a mix of residential, retail, restaurant, entertainment and marina facilities.

The development posed significant design challenges, including potentially conflicting environmental, public access, cost and investment considerations. The solution was a combination of innovative design and sensitive planning that successfully balanced public and private demands.

Including the final stage which is under construction, the four residential buildings, Marina Pier, Marina East, Lights Landing and Platinum Apartments offer a total of 339 residential apartments with a shared 80 berth marina.

There is also the 216 room Pier Hotel, and an exciting new entertainment and retail complex replacing Magic Mountain including new facilities for the Glenelg Surf Life Saving Club.

The design integrates recreational and residential areas, landscaping, pedestrian paths and walkways, traffic flow and access to the marina boardwalks, the beach and adjacent Moseley Square. This imaginative integration was the key to protecting and managing public use of the surrounding spaces.

The majority of apartments were sold 'off-the-plan prior to commencement of construction, assuring the projects commercial success. Construction of the final stage is underway and includes the Platinum Building Apartments.
