The Herald and Weekly Times facilities at West Gate Park, Melbourne represent one of New Limited's largest and most impressive newspaper production plants. The objective was to create an efficient, attractive building that would set new design standards in the publishing industry.

Woodhead was commissioned to provide a design solution which met the varying specialist needs of the production, administration, advertising and editorial functions at the paper. The end result is a state-of-the-art building with the capabilities to service the industry well into the next century.

It includes a technologically-advanced production facility of 53,000sqm containing a paper store, press hall, mail room and despatch area, and basement car parking. High levels of staff amenities are provided, with inviting recreation areas and attractive external landscaping.

Contemporary materials and colours, and the extensive use of glass and steel, create a dynamic atmosphere meeting the client's aesthetic and functional objectives. Intelligent use of glass breaks down visual barriers between departments.

Woodhead worked in collaboration with The Herald and Weekly Times Project Manager to provide a building which satisfied all requirements and was built to budget and to schedule.
