Gold Coast Airport

Coolangatta, Queensland

The northern end of the Gold Coast airport terminal has been upgraded at a cost of almost $10 million to become a multi-user facility and provide more significant retail, dining and service facilities.

The fresh new terminal is painted in bold colours that reflect the leisure image of the Gold Coast, and features big skylights to allow as much natural lighting as possible. Concourses and lounges are all designed to give the airport a holiday ambience.

The design was chosen to give tourists a sense of arrival at Australia's leading leisure destination. Their Gold Coast holiday experience begins from the moment that they step off the aircraft.

Enhancements include a more efficient and comfortable group tour and coach parking facilities and shade sails over the set-down area and walkway to the carpark.

New retailers include significantly expanded duty free, alfresco dining, including fine cuisine, as well as snacks, and retailers who fit the holiday atmosphere. The project received Queensland Tourism Award for New Tourism Development in 2003.
