Sydney Airport 2000
Mascot, New South Wales
Woodhead was commissioned for the expansion for Sydney International Terminal consisting of new aircraft positions, aerobridges and remote positions as well as maximised retail opportunities throughout.
Over the three years, from appointment to delivery of this $425m project, Woodhead has worked closely with Bovis Lend Lease and Sydney Airport Corporation Limited (SACL) to develop the 'total journey experience' and a 'sense of place / brand'.
Substantial research was carried out by SACL with the people of Sydney and travellers. This research defined that the new airport should be focussed on passenger facilities, ease of use and an expression of Sydney, Australia.
The passenger's comfort and amenity is primary. As such all design is focussed around the experiences and facilities that a passenger will require when moving through a transportation facility.
The team has reviewed and challenged all previous assumptions with the view of providing the "world's best" solution. The result has been a rejuvenated product that the owners, designers and users are proud to be associated with. Airport voted IATA No.1 (under 25 million pax) 2001.
