Sydney Airport, Terminal 2 Retail

Mascot, New South Wales

Masterplan reorganises the vertical circulation and
passenger flows to integrate with the retail offer.

Woodhead was commissioned to create a retail masterplan for Sydney Airports Terminal 2. This terminal provides facilities for regional carriers including Virgin Blue, Jetstar and Qantas.

The masterplan focuses upon enhancing the current retail, food and beverage offer. Vertical circulation points and passenger flows have been reorganised to better integrate with the retail offer.

Escalators have been relocated so that passengers move through the retail precinct en route to lounges and concourse areas. This strategic increase in footfall will improve the revenue generated potential by the retail area.

The retail precinct comprises a combination of shops, food and beverage and seating, which encourages travellers to extend their time in the retail zone. This increases passenger spending and the retail experience.

The changes to the retail configuration have prompted a rethinking of the security zone, which has been reinforced. The masterplan also incorporates a proposed airside extension to the building in order to cater for projected passenger demand.
