The relocation of Perth's oldest stockbroking firm JB Were into BankWest Tower provided the opportunity to create an effective new work environment with a mix of staff workstations, client suites, breakout spaces and dealing areas. Situated on the 44th floor, the design and fitout of the new offices provided the design team with a number of challenges.

The uncompromising floor plate needed to be negotiated so that the boardroom could take advantage of the expansive views while ensuring that other staff areas were not deprived of natural light. Equally important was the inclusion of client orientated space which comprises almost 50% of the available floor area.

The boardroom has been designed with the flexibility to accommodate a variety of uses, ranging from formal client presentations to staff training sessions.

As part of the flowthrough design, Woodhead redesigned the traditional dealers' desks. Modern workstations provide maximum worktop areas and were sized to ensure optimum efficiency and traffic flow within the floor plate. The project was successfully completed within the six week tender, which saw the client move in ahead of their schedule.

The open plan concept maximises the natural light and represents a shift away from the traditional formality of stockbroking offices. Even client suites have been blended into the office area. The result is a fully open plan office that incorporates both efficiency and flexibility.
