Durack Centre
Perth, Western Australia
Woodhead was commissioned by Stockland to design a new four storey, 6900sqm 'green' landmark office building adjacent to their current thirteen storey Durack centre. In terms of design and environmental initiatives, the Durack will become a flagship building for the Stockland property group in WA.
Located in the most sought after riverside location of Perth CBD, the site will provide a unique opportunity to create a high quality, low rise office complex. The building form is clean and legible and is generated by a simple rectangular floor plate which offers the maximum flexibility for a modern office building.
The service cores have been located on the perimeter to maximise the amenity of the office space. The floor plate is wrapped in a contemporary curtain wall system which maximises the views into the building and allows the occupants to take advantage of the views to the existing plane trees and the Swan River.
An innovative operable louvres facade will become the major feature of the western side of the building which is also the main street address. This elevation will be further activated by the 'see-through' lift core which will be visible from the street and allow users of the lifts to look out into the plane trees and the river.
One of the principal design parameters of this project is to respond to the sustainability ethos of Stockland. Designed to achieve a 5 star ABGR rating and a 5 star Green Star Environmental rating, this building will be one of the most environmentally sustainable commercial buildings in Perth. Key initiatives used to achieve these ratings include individually monitored automated external louvres, active chilled beam mechanical services, peak energy reduction, and extensive cyclist end of trip facilities.
