Southern and Eastern Integrated Transport Authority ( SEITA)
Glen Waverley, Victoria
Woodhead has created a striking and vibrant public interface and office for SEITA.
We were initially commissioned to find a suitable site within the south-east corridor that the freeway services. Following this brief and design commenced for the 1000sqm fitout. The result is a great pubic space with interactive learning facilities, floor to ceiling maps of the Mitcham-Frankston freeway.
The interactive front of house Display Room houses hi-tech audio visual equipment and displays focussing on the construction and progress of the freeway works. The office for 40 people encourages greater staff communication and interaction through the inclusion of cafe spaces, open meeting areas and several quiet rooms.
We had fun with the colours and finishes as SEITA were keen to emphasise the urban materials and textures of the freeway itself. Weve taken images of overpasses and distorted them onto the office and meeting room glazing, and added the patterns from the air stacks in bold flamboyant colours on to the doors. Walls are panelled to mimic the freeway retaining walls and the main entry door is like one of the tunnels.
