Saville Hotel

Darwin, Northern Territory

Woodhead undertook interior design of this 3.5 start hotel, designed to accommodate both the business and the tourism markets.

Consisting of 131 one, two and three bedroom suites which can be converted into 208 hotel rooms, the flexible room configurations are designed to appeal to the long-stay guests, particularly defence personnel who often have short term postings (up to six months).

Interior design reflects the tropical setting of Darwin, with the public area designed to maximise the use of prevailing winds, and rooms positioned to take advantage of the tranquil water views.

The style and elegance of the bygone colonial era have been used for dramatic effect with the use of Punka Fans, colonial shutters, cane furniture and bright tropical colours.

Delivered three months ahead of schedule and 12% under budget, during one of the wettest years on records, the Holiday Inn has added a valuable tourism resource to the Northern Territory.
