A team of Woodhead people from the Singapore Office are busy preparing their exciting installation for The Project at the first ever Saturday Indesign in Singapore later this month.

Teaming up with InterfaceFLOR, Woodhead shall be revealing an interactive installation entitled “Collective Cohesion” which explores the notion of interconnections within the design community as well as that between designer, process and product.

Woodhead’s 5 x 3m space will feature a highly tactile installation showcasing deconstructed carpet elements and its derivative raw materials. This in turn serves as a backdrop to a three-dimensional peg-board ‘canvas’ which aims to engage the audience in creating a progressive interwoven tapestry that cumulates during the course of the one-day event.  Specifically, visitors to the space get their photos taken and placed on a peg, then search and identify others whom they know by weaving a web of binding yarns.  As a metaphor of the design profession itself, the continual transformation of the space relies on the collective cohesion and interaction of the people who touch upon it.  At any point in time, the scene reveals a particular designer’s sphere of influence, yet this too is transient as the layering of materials and human exchanges creates evolving outcomes.  The polaroid portraits themselves will also wittingly reveal the timeline of the day, as the backdrop continually builds up and changes.  In its totality, the stage serves as an activated space to express connection, collaboration and synergy, where the sum of unique entries adds up to a whole new yet unified end result.

This initiative provides the creative content at Saturday in Design. It’s an opportunity for the architects, designers, and other creatives in the community to work with exhibiting companies to create an installation or exhibition for the event. Woodhead was part of the winning installation in 2010 at Saturday Indesign Melbourne.

A keyword is provided by Saturday in Design for the partnerships to explore and interpret. Then, incorporating showroom product, they collaborate in the lead up to the event to create displays, experiences and exhibitions within showroom spaces on the day.

Saturday in Design is an annual trade event for the design community. It began in Sydney in 2003 and takes place on alternative years in Sydney and Melbourne.

It involves premier designer furniture, finishes, fixtures and lighting showrooms opening their doors on a Saturday to allow architects, designers, students and design-savvy members of the public to enjoy the product they specify, in a showroom environment.

Saturday in Design has traditionally been an opportunity for local and international products from hundreds of reputed brands to be launched to thousands of members of the design community in one day.

To enable hassle-free travel in between showroom venues around the city, a number of complimentary shuttle buses run on pre-arranged routes for the entire day.
