The Woodhead designed St Johns Ambulance Corporate Headquarters has recently opened in Burwood, NSW. Design services provided by Woodhead included a full base building upgrade and interior fitout over three floors.
The client brief outlined that the new offices should “create a harmonious working environment”. An environment which encourages productivity and morale, encompasses the values of St John Ambulance, and encourage users to enjoy the workspace”. The client also required the design solution to be a contemporary and efficient design.
When planning the new space the Woodhead design team took into consideration the disparate and small settings which St John employees had previously occupied. The new design concept capitalises on a more open environment, with greater access to natural light, and further interaction and communications zones.
The underlying principle of the concept is to promote ‘St John’ from the public areas through to the work spaces. A more corporate design has been developed in the public areas, drawing on the history of the St John service, whilst the staff and student breakout areas have been designed in a more relaxed and familiar manner based on the public events’ nature of St John and their participation in outdoor public events.
