The new Woodhead designed Flinders Medical Centre, New South Wing Redevelopment in Adelaide has been officially awarded the 5 Star Greenstar ‘As Designed’ Certification for a healthcare project.

The South Australian Minister for Health, John Hill and Brendon Hewitt, Director Corporate and Clinical Support at South Australian Health joined the Woodhead team and members of the FMC design and building team in accepting the certification.

Romilly Madew, Chief Executive of the Green Building Council of Australia, presented the certificate.

The environmental features include the largest solar hot water system in South Australia. The 286 solar panel system is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1,100 tonnes each year, and energy costs by around $200,000 each year.

The water saving initiatives are achieved through new water-efficient coolers and a system for harvesting and reusing rainwater. This will save the hospital more than 60 million litres of water a year.
