Congratulations to Britta Gronau on winning at the NAWIC Crystal Vision Awards Night 2010, held in Perth.

Britta won the award in the Fratelle Group Award for Outstanding Achievement in Construction Consultancy services category. Nominated for her involvement in the multi-award winning 2 Victoria Avenue in Perth.

These awards celebrate outstanding women in construction and thank those who have promoted and encouraged women to progress in the industry. This particular category was open to women who were involved as consultants in relation to a construction project where the individual’s contribution or responsibility for the project ended after 1 January 2009, or the project was completed after 1 January 2009.

“I truly loved working on this project, it was great to work with a very dedicated team of client, contractor and consultants to deliver an award winning building, setting a new benchmark in sustainable design in Perth.” Said Britta, on receiving the award.

Woodhead was commissioned by Stockland to design a new five storey, 7350m2 ‘green’ landmark commercial office building adjacent to their current thirteen storey Durack Centre. In terms of design and environmental initiatives, 2 Victoria Ave is a flagship building for the Stockland Property Group in WA.

Located in the most sought after riverside location of Perth CBD, the site provides a unique opportunity to create a high quality, low rise office complex. The building form is clean and legible and is generated by a simple rectangular floor plate which offers maximum flexibility for a modern office building.

The service cores have been located on the perimeter to maximise the amenity of the office space. The floor plate is wrapped in a contemporary curtain wall system which maximises the views into the building and allows the occupants to take advantage of the views to the existing plane trees and the Swan River.

An innovative operable louvre façade is a dominant feature of the western side of the building which is also the main street address.

This elevation is further activated by the ‘see-through’ lift core which is visible from the street and allows users of the lifts to look out into the plane trees and the river.

One of the principal design parameters of this project is to respond to the sustainability ethos of Stockland.

The building has exceeded the clients brief and achieves a 5 star + 20% NABER Energy predicted rating. This building is one of the most environmentally sustainable commercial buildings in Perth, being the first building in Western Australian to achieve a 6 star Green Star Environmental design rating. Key initiatives used to achieve these ratings include individually monitored automated external louvres, active chilled beam mechanical services, grey water recycling, roof mounted wind turbines and extensive cyclist end of trip facilities.
